Geotechnical - Is a specialty of civil engineering which deals with
the properties, behavior and use of earth material (soil & rock)
in engineering works.
Sub Surface Exploration - The objective of any subsurface
exploration program is to determine the nature and
sequence of the subsurface strata (geological regime),
groundwater conditions (hydro geological regime) and
physical and mechanical properties of the sub surface
strata. The exploration report provides the owner/developer/engineer
with an evaluation of the suitability of the site for
the proposed project as well as design recommendations
to accommodate the subsurface static and dynamic soil
conditions, bearing capacities etc. A typical report
would provide recommendations on foundation system
alternatives, specific foundation design parameters
and possible mitigating methods for soil improvement
for the type of application and structure. Geotechnical
explorations typically consist of test borings to obtain
geologic information and samples of the site soils
/ rock, in-situ and laboratory tests to determine the
relevant engineering properties of the various soil/rock
strata, providing recommendations on foundations and
where required with specific analysis of leg penetration,
pull out loads, pile driveability analysis etc. The
number and depth of borings, drilling and sampling
techniques, type of in-situ tests and methods of laboratory
analysis are highly dependent on various project details,
including the type of facility and proposed structural
system, as well as site specific factors, such as topography,
geologic setting, and previous development activity.
COMACOE and its engineering staff have conducted a
number of geotechnical explorations throughout the
West Coast and East Coast of India as well as various
locations ranging from east and west coast of India,
Caspian Sea - Kazaksthan, Gulf of Mexico, South China
Sea - Vietnam & Malaysia for both marine and land
infrastructure development projects. These include
ports & harbors, offshore feed-stock handling facilities
(LNG Terminals/SBM’s, SPM’s), Leg Penetration
Analysis for Jack Up rigs, bridges, jackets, pipelines,
onshore tankages, power plant etc.
Logos Searcher is a dedicated geotechnical vessel
operated by COMACOE. The 4 point mooring vessel is
permanently mobilized with a heave compensated drilling
rig complete with downhole CPT, wireline sampling tools,
seabed frame and mud pump. The vessel has completed
over 1500m of offshore investigations related to platform
and leg penetration analysis (LPA) for a variety of
clients in the oil and gas segment in India and overseas.
